13th April 2016- Connor on Come Back Trail at Bay Road 5km

Local star Connor Bradley made an impressive return to competitive action with a winning 15m 12s effort at Wednesday night’s Bay Road 5K and Letterkenny AC’s Anne Marie McGlynn also impressed with a 5th place overall finish in the 100 strong field, posting a swift 16m 17s for a comprehensive womens race triumph.

Staged over a new course and in decent conditions marred only by an annoying head wind, the speedy Spartan announced his return to race action with a strong run to see off the persistent challenge of Letterkenny AC training partner Danny Mooney, taking the tape in 15m 12s ahead of Mooney’s 15m 21s, as another Spartan Gary Slevin held off Springwell athlete Jonathan McKee for the final podium spot. His 15m 33s clocking gave him the edge by just three seconds at the finish line and follows a decent run three days earlier at the National 10K in Dublin.

This quartet were well clear of the chasers, led home by the dougthy Anne Marie McGlynn who was followed home by the leading male U20, Foyle Valley’s Roy McGilloway in 16m 20s. Master runner Colin Roberts of the promoting club completed the top six , his 16m 21s netting him the M45 prize ahead of clubmate Paul McCafferty, 9th in 16m 32s.

Another Spartan Michael Murphy celebrated a recent significant birthday by running 16m 36s to claim the M40 prize, Bridgeen Canavan was the top F45 on 21m 40s and Catherine Moran of Foyle Valley ran 22m 50s for the F55 honours.

Apart from the Spartans and Foyle Valley, there were club runners from Ballymena Runners, Ballymena&Antrim, Letterkenny, Springwell, Acorns, Lifford, North Belfast Harriers, City of Lisburn and Lagan Valley. Local community running groups Blast, Rise and Eglinton Road Runners were also represented in the diverse field alongside several unattached runners as the Bay Road race once again brought out the spectators.
